The Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro

God is Good all the time.

They follow the spirit of Saint Benedict,

“Ora et Labora; Pray and work.”

In 1931, the order was founded by an Irish Bishop, Henry A. Gogarty C.S.SP. in the Catholic Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania.

From 1931- 1973, Sr. Felicitas Tirpitz C.P.S. was from Bavaria, Germany and the first Mother General. She led the indigenous nuns for 42 years then handed over leadership to them.

Today, Sister Theresia Buretta is the fourth Mother General with over 800 active sisters and postulates. She oversees the congregation who are dedicated to live a simple life and ready to serve and obey the will of God for the Glory of God and salvation of souls.

In Tanzania, Africa they own 15 facilities at these locations:

  • The district of Rombo
  • Moshi Municipal
  • Arusha Region
  • Da-es-salaam City
  • Mwanza City
  • Dodoma City
